Pacific Coast, Southern Nicaragua February 25, 2004. Morgan’s
Rock Hacienda and Ecolodge announces the opening of their resort
in July 2004. This new destination, located on the Pacific Coast
of Southern Nicaragua, embodies the same values of conservation
of nature, education and development of local communities as
its sister property Lapa Rios Ecolodge in Southern Costa Rica.
The resort, surrounded by a spectacular beach and forest environment,
offers visitors a unique vacation experience and the opportunity
to be a part of a project, which supports nature conservation,
community development and reforestation.
Morgan’s Rock Hacienda and Ecolodge, located just north
of the town of San Juan del Sur on the Pacific Coast in southern
Nicaragua, is about a 30-minute drive from the Costa Rican border
and lies an hours drive to the colonial city of Granada. “Morgan's
Rock introduces a completely new concept of tourism combining
eco-tourism elements known mostly in Costa Rica with the European
tradition of agro-tourism, ” says owner Eric Poncon. The
hacienda is part of a full-scale tree farming, reforestation
and conservation project that extends over 1,800 hectares. The
unique and secluded ecolodge hosts almost the same amount of
wildlife as the nearby La Flor National Park. Here howler, spider
and white-faced monkeys enliven the surrounding forests and
sea turtles visit the beach to lay their eggs. The wildlife
rich forest, sandy beaches and a variety of wilderness adventures
offers a paradise for anyone fascinated with wildlife.
The resort offers a variety of half and full day tours, multi-faceted
explorations and activities that allow for cultural interactions,
scenic beauty and nature viewing at its finest. “Besides
being a beautiful hotel in a spectacular setting, Morgan's Rock
offers employment to the local community and education about
nature, culture and history to our guests,” says Carla
Petzold, General Manager. The Hacienda is also home to one of
Latin America's finest agro-tourism operations and guests here
will have the opportunity to take a tour to learn about reforestation,
tree farming, sustainable agriculture and traditional farming
techniques.
Accommodations at Morgan’s Rock Hacienda and Ecolodge
include fifteen private west facing bungalows, which open to
spectacular views of the ocean and surrounding forest. Most
bungalows sit on a cliff overlooking the private bay and estuary
and all feature one-king size bed, a comfortable sofa bed, hammocks,
an open-air shower and a private deck. The architect used mainly
local materials and the wooden furniture was custom crafted
by local artisans.
A stay at Morgan’s Rock Hacienda and Ecolodge combines
ecotourism and agrotourism in a spectacular beach and forest
environment. They offer quality accommodations, local gourmet
delights and an exciting array of adventures. For more information
