Working with the community

A key part of Morgan’s Rock Hacienda & Ecolodge sustainability efforts is its involvement with the local community. Nearly all the employees are from the local area. We support the local community by buying local products for the lodge. Our pottery collection features pieces that are hand-crafted by artisans in San Juan de Oriente, which is a village steeped in the tradition of pottery making. The art form is a vital source of sustainable income for the artisans and their community.

We have an alliance with NicaFrance Foundation since 2009 to support six schools. NicaFrance Foundation was established in 1999, where it was determined to support the elementary education at schools in Matagalpa and now is working with Morgan's Rock, providing an education specialist Mr. Jose Thomas Gomez to follow the quality in the formation teachers.

Morgan’s Rock is committed to improving the quality of education for the children in the nearby rural communities of Las Marías, El Bastón, San Antonio, Papaturro, Bernardino y la Talanguera by sponsoring the public schools located on those areas with a total of 259 students. Through its program of Social Responsibility it provides worshops and activities to strengthen the process of teaching and learning to instill in the children a positive attitude of change, creativity and desire to attain their goals, in order to develop men and women that will take an active part through their education in the social, economical and political aspects of our country. We believe that the quality of teaching and education will always be the result of a common effort of the schools, families and community.

Most of the contributions come from our guests at the hotel willing to help and contribute for this wonderful cause and insitutions like: ANF (American Nicaraguan Foundation) and AMCHAM (American Chamber of Commerce) through NicaFrance Foundation. The donations have come via: backpacks filled with school supplies, school uniforms, expendable equipment, nutritional foods and maintenance of school infrastructure.

The school teachers have been thoroughly trained with strategic methodologies and technical tools to improve the education of all the schools kids to pave way for a better future and education.
