Below you find a quick guide to geography and travel logistics to southern
Nicaragua and Costa Rica:
Right before getting to the town of San Juan del Sur, you will get to a large sign with a yellow gate (normally open) that reads Welcome to San Juan del Sur, continue for 100mts more and then turn right onto a dirt road. You will pass the local high school on your right and then through a small town, always going straight. This road is called "La Chocolata". Keep on going until you reach the first and only bridge on the way to Morgan's Rock from San Juan del Sur, it's a cement bridge with no railings. Immediately after the bridge you will see an intersection where you must turn left. You will know you are going the right way when you see a rock sign on your right, with the initials "MR" painted on. Keep going for another 150mts and reach another intersection where you will see another rock sign and must turn right. Keep going and you will pass through various small towns and many real estate signs, and after that go up a hill, then down. On the right side of the road you will see a small "ranchito" with a big sign that reads Morgan's Rock. This is the entrance to the property, the guard will ask for your name, due to the fact that we only allow the entrance with reservation. Your adventure doesn't end here, you must continue and in each intersection follow the signs that read "Ecolodge". When you arrive, please go straight to the Reception, do not leave your car in the parking lot. Here we will help you with your luggage and park your car. All this trajectory will take approximately 35 to 40 minutes.
Even though this road is the same one you take to get to Majagual, the directions to Morgan's Rock are different. If you get to Majagual, you must turn back since you will have passed the entrance to Morgan's Rock.

Arriving to Morgan’s Rock from Liberia, Costa Rica by Ground Transfer
Getting to Liberia: You might consider flying with one of the two Costa Rican domestic airlines (Sansa) into Liberia from anywhere in Costa Rica (usually using San Jose as a hub). You also might arrive on your international flight from the North America or Europe in Liberia. Once at the Liberia International Airport, we can arrange ground transfer to Morgan’s Rock.
Ground transfer to Morgan’s Rock: The ground transfer from Liberia to Morgan’s Rock takes about 3.5 hours, depending on how busy the immigration offices at the border are. The cost of the transfer depends on the number of people traveling in your party, but is generally about $240 for four people and you are crossing the border in the same car with the same driver you do not need to switch cars or drivers at the border.
Crossing the border: The most challenging part of the ground transfer is the border crossing experience at Peñas Blancas, which is a perfect example for inefficiency and unnecessary bureaucracy at Central American border posts, but at the same time can be quite a cultural experience. While we will make an effort to make this cultural experience as bearable as possible for you, especially during holidays (Christmas and Easter) there is the possibility of delays. The immigration office hours at the border are from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm.
Immigration formalities: Tourists and Costa Rican citizens do not have to pay any fees upon leaving Costa Rica. Foreign residents in Costa Rica pay $20 departure tax. To enter Nicaragua most North American and European countries do not require a visa but need a passport that still has validity for additional six months from the date of entry. Foreigners need to purchase a tourism card for $7. You will need to pay an additional dollar ($1) to exit the main gate at the Nicaraguan border.Costa Rican residents or nationals need to acquire a visa to enter Nicaragua. The visa can be obtained at the Nicaraguan Consulate of the country of residency and a fee of $25 needs to be paid.

Arriving with your own Car
Costa Rican’s that are planning to cross the border from Costa Rica into Nicaragua with their car, must first obtain permission to leave the country. This is done by obtaining a document from the National Registration Office located upstairs in Banco de Costa Rica in San Jose or Liberia. The stamp for this document costs around $1. You must also provide a photocopy of your passport and car identification. This will be needed at the border. Also, be sure to have the Costa Rican Custom Stamp on the document before you exit with your car. This stamp is obtained at the car registration entrance window on presentation of the original document and a photocopy. Entering Nicaragua with your car will cost $10.00 USD registration fee paid at the bank located inside the new main building after first registering your car at the appropriate window. If your car is on lease or you have a loan with the bank, you will not be allowed to take your car out of Costa Rica.
